At the OMEA board meeting on May 18th, 2013 the board voted to allow a simple screening process for the Middle School All-State honor choir.
SECTION (12) B. ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND JUNIOR HIGH TEACHERS
a. Middle School All-State Honor Choir Exception: Students nominated for Middle School All-State Choir are required to record and submit to the OMEA website a 5-tone ascending and descending scale using solfege, numbers, or la, to ensure that students are placed in the correct voice part and can match pitch. (5/18/13)
Building the mp3 upload capability and the screener function into the website pages, results in a $10 audition fee for each choral student. This fee must be paid prior to October 1, 2013
Statewide representation is still our number one priority and at least one student from each school will be selected if they can match pitch within a range specified below. We hope this screening process will allow for a balanced choir and ensure students selected for the honor choir have the best possible experience. The screening process will be as follows:
Please sing the following 5-tone scales ascending and descending on solfege, numbers, or la. Teachers will play each scale on the recording and the student will repeat.
Bass: C-G (begin on C below middle C) F-C (begin on F below middle C)
Tenor: E-B (begin on E below middle C) A-E (begin on A below middle C)
Alto: Bb-F (begin on Bb below middle C) A-E (begin on A above middle C)
Soprano: E-B (begin on E above middle C) C-G (begin on C one octave above middle C)
Please rate your students on a scale from 1-5 (1=poor, 5=excellent)
