Sessions

Music Through Movement

Come join the fun with folkdance and theater games for elementary teachers.

This workshop is designed for elementary music, P.E., and classroom teachers who would like to enhance their programs with more folk dance and theater. Have you ever considered having a family folk dance at your school? You don't have to be a music teacher to do it. A CD with the folk music will be handed out to participates for free.

Would you like to do more creative theater with your students? We will spend the last portion of the workshop on playing and teaching theater games. David Adee will be doing the workshop.

District 12 High School Band Reading Session

Rob McGlothin, chair of session

District 12 is happy to offer a high school band reading session during the October inservice. In order to make this reading session successful, we need those participating (hopefully all!) to send us 5 names of students who are good readers. We will post the signup on the Bethel Web at www.bethel.k12.or.us. Please sign-up by Friday, September 21, 2001. We can then balance the instrumentation and work on filing crucial holes. Please feel free to bring your personal axe and sit in. If you have any suggestions of pieces you would like to read and/or direct, please send them to Rob McGlothin at [email protected].

The reading session will be held in the band room at Willamette High school during the morning session. The students you bring will have a pizza fed after the session. Most of the pieces we will read will be new works at the grade 3-4 level. Your participation is what will make this great opportunity successful. It will be rewarding day for the students and the directors if you help!

District 12 Choir Reading Session

Mark Hisenga, chair of session

Choir Directors! Finally, a chance to participate in a choral reading session LOCALLY! The first session will include two approaches; in addition to reading through the packet of new choral literature provided by Wilson Music, some of our own local choral directors will present "Tried-But-True" arrangements from their own libraries! These will be arrangements that have always worked with their own choirs. Music appropriate for a variety of skill-levels (middle and high school) will be on hand, and the folks at Wilson Music will be available to help with any purchases directors want to make onsite. By this date, you'll be more aware of the abilities of your singers. Come and find music that will challenge AND support! This session will take place in the choir room at Meadow View School.
