All-State Elementary Honor Choir

What is the Elementary Honor Choir?

Elementary students have the opportunity to sing with their most talented peers from across the state. To be eligible, a student must be in fifth grade and enrolled in a music class in his/her elementary school. Sixth graders who attend a K-6 elementary school are also eligible to be nominated. (Sixth graders who attend middle schools are not eligible for this choir.) Participating students must have a treble, unchanged voice.

Conductor for the Elementary Honor Choir

  • Judith Herrington
Director, Tacoma Youth Chorus and Music Director at Charles Wright Academy Lower School, Tacoma, WA

Every school that nominates students for inclusion in the choir will have at least one member chosen, provided that their director is a member of OMEA/MENC and attends the convention.

The choir will rehearse Friday, January 27, 2006 in Eugene. It will perform at the General Session of the OMEA State Conference Saturday morning, January 28, in the Eugene Hilton. A registration fee of $130 will cover clinician costs, sheet music, food, lodging, and administrative expenses. Students will stay at the Phoenix Inn in Eugene on Friday night, except for those living in the Eugene area. Registration for local students (Eugene area) will be $110. Supervision will be provided from the time of registration until the concert.

  • Choir members should be experienced in both unison and simple polyphonic singing. They should be able to sing in tune and hold their part confidently.
  • This treble choir is for students with unchanged voices. Selected students whose voices change between the nominations deadline and January 1, 2006 may be asked not to participate. Please consider this carefully as you submit nominations. If a students voice is starting the changing process, it would probably be best not to nominate him for this choir.
