Order:
The spring business meeting was brought to order by OMEA District VI Chair Mike Agidius. Agendas were distributed.

Minutes:
Minutes from the August 26, 2000 fall business meeting were read by OMEA District VI Secretary Stephen Pavletich. Kathleen Alviar made a motion that the minutes be accepted as read. Jim Howell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Reports

Treasurer's Report:
Account balance $1,720.00
Mike Agidius reported that Ric Sherman (Armand Larive Middles School, Hermiston) will be retiring at the end of the 2001-2002 school year and wishes to step down as OMEA District VI Treasurer at this time. A call for nominations was made to elect a new treasurer. Tom Isaacson was voted into the position unanimously.

Solo and Ensemble:
Stephen Pavletich reported for the absent Solo and Ensemble Chairs Debbie Wryn (Stanfield Schools) and TedRoy McBride (Cove School) that the contest had run smoothly. There was a loss reported of approximately $850.00. Mike Agidius requested that Debbie Wryn submit an expenses report for the contest.

After a discussion on the scheduling of like categories together in the same room, it was moved by Tom Isaacson that the district align its standards for contests with the state standards. Mike Agidius seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

After a discussion, Jim Howell (OMEA State President) made a motion to cap the number of performances that an accompanist can play for at 10. Tom Isaacson seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Large Group:
Chairs Tom Isaacson (choral) and Jeff Sizer (Instrumental) reported that Large Group had been a success. It was agreed by the group that the sightreading portion was a nice addition and that some additional guidelines for next year's contest would be helpful to all.

Mike Frasier reminded the group that state qualifiers must perform at least 12 minutes of music (choral) or 18 minutes of music (instrumental) and play one piece from the approved list at the appropriate level to qualify for the state contest.

President's Report:
Jim Howell reported that the state board is looking to have music districts donate funds to help support a new website. The group unanimously decided to send no support.

Mr. Howell also reported that the state board is looking for donation from music districts to help support a survey of the arts in the state. The group unanimously decided to send no support.

New Business:
Steve Pavletich asked that nest year's Large Group Festival be moved due to conflicts with state testing. The group decided to leave the contest on the date it was originally scheduled.

(District Chairmans note: One of the main reasons our district decided not to support sending money to state OMEA is that our district has incurred losses on solo and large group festival this year and or district does not feel financially strong enough to drain our account more than it already is.)

Adjourn:
Jim Howell made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Stephen Pavletich seconded and the meeting was adjourned by a unanimous vote.
