The American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR) wishes to strongly encourage schools to develop music programs using handchimes or handbells.
Each year, the Northwest Area of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR) makes two 3 octave sets of handchimes available to two selected schools in the state of Oregon. This program is free to the school and music educator(s) for the entire school year and includes instructions for the use of the handchimes, complete teaching materials and music, free shipping or delivery of the handchimes, a one year membership in AGEHR and the support of an experienced ringer or director in the area. Currently, these two sets are being enjoyed by music teachers in an elementary school in Salem and a middle school and high school educator in Scappoose.
The purpose of this program is to educate young people about handchimes and handbells and encourage schools to develop music programs using handchimes or handbells by including the loaned AGEHR Handchimes as a regular part of the school music program. The deadline for application to the program is June 1, 2008. Those awarded the grant will receive their set of handchimes and materials in time for the following fall school term.
If you or any music educator you know of in Oregon might be interested in this program, please contact Barbara Brocker at (541) 593-7396 or
