Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs: A Free, Must Attend Event for Creative Students

Alexandria, VACollege-bound high school students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in the areas of music, dance, theater, visual arts, graphic design, and other related disciplines are encouraged to attend the National Association for College Admission Counselings (NACAC) Portland Performing and Visual Arts College Fair.

The Portland Performing and Visual Arts College Fair will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at Portland State University, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

While plenty of information is available for college-bound students with traditional interests, not as many resources exist for those who are more artistically-inclined. NACACs Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs fill a vital need for the growing number of students pursuing college degrees in music, theater, art, dance, visual arts, graphic design and writing. These fairs offer a unique opportunity to get the inside scoop on what it takes to obtain a degree in the arts.

At NACACs Performing and Visual Arts College Fairs, students, parents and art institutions take center stage. These fairs allow college-bound students interested in the arts to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from colleges, universities, conservatories, studios, festivals, and other educational institutions with specialized programs in the visual and performing arts.

Attendees learn about educational opportunities, admission and financial aid, portfolio days, audition and entrance requirements, student life, and much more.

NACAC will sponsor Performing and Visual Arts Fairs in 16 locations throughout the country this fall, including New York; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; Washington, DC; Chicago; Dallas; and Atlanta.

For more information, including a full schedule visit: http://www.nacacnet.org/MemberPortal/Events/CollegeFairs/

About NACAC: NACAC is an Alexandria, VA-based education association of more than 9,200 primary and secondary school counselors, independent counselors, college admission and financial aid officers, enrollment managers, and organizations that work with students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. The association is committed to maintaining high standards that foster ethical and social responsibility among those involved in the transition process, as outlined in the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice.

NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR THE MUSIC EDUCATORS HALL OF FAME

The Music Educators Hall of Fame was established by MENC in 1984 to honor those individuals who are considered to be the most highly regarded professional leaders in American music education.  Their contributions may be in any field of specialization.  Nominations are currently being solicited.  Neither the nominee nor the nominator must be a member of MENC.  Living nominees must be at least 55 years of age.

For information on the nomination procedures or for a list of current Hall of Fame members, visit the MENC Web site and find links to the Hall of FAME in the index under "H" (the direct url is: http://www.menc.org/information/histinfo/guidelines.html). Nominations are solicited on a biennial cycle.  Up to three persons may be inducted each biennium. The deadline for nomination of candidates to be inducted in 2008 is February 1, 2007.

Who do you think belongs in the Music Educators Hall of Fame?  Don't assume that an individual you believe should be in the Hall of Fame is already a member or that someone else will nominate him or her.  Check the list of Hall of Fame honorees at http://www.menc.org/information/histinfo/Historicalinfohall.html and submit a nomination if your candidate is not listed.
